Nokia.com moves under Microsoft’s banner
|Nokia’s Irish website is now pointing visitors to Microsoft.com – the latest part of its phasing out of the legendary Finnish brand.
Visitors to Nokia.com are now offered to ‘step inside’ the brand’s new home, with a link that redirects them to Microsoft.com.
The move follows Microsoft’s blockbuster acquisition of Nokia more than a year ago – and will ultimately lead to the end of the Nokia and Windows Phone brands.
They will be replaced with a new division – Microsoft Mobile Devices – of which Lumia will play a key role.
It is also expected that Microsoft will begin to refer to their mobile operating system simply as Windows in the future.
The Nokia name will continue – though not in the world of handsets. What’s left of the business in Finland now focuses on networks and infrastructure.
