It appears that the latest update of the Android operating system for phones – codenamed ‘Froyo’ – is expected to become available to the public very soon. A new, currently wrapped sculpture has arrived on the GooglePlex lawn in California following the tradition of previous big Android releases.
According to TechCrunch.com the next version of the increasingly popular platform will offer broadband tethering and WiFi hotspot features. This means owners will be able to use their phone as a wired or even wireless broadband connection for their computer, assuming it is permitted by their network.
Android Froyo – or version 2.2 as it is officially known – is also said to be four times faster than the previous version, which was codenamed ‘eclair’.
Since its initial launch Google has marked the arrival of a new version of Android by placing a sculpture on the lawns of its headquarters. These sculptures represent the various codenames used for the releases – so far Cupcake, Donut & Eclair – and so the latest arrival is expected to be a giant frozen yoghurt.
