O2 get exclusivity on HTC Smart’s April launch

HTC's Smart will be available exclusively on O2 when it arrives in Ireland in April.

HTC's Smart will be available exclusively on O2 when it arrives in Ireland in April.

O2 will be the exclusive carrier of HTC’s Smart handset when it arrives in Ireland in April.

The HTC Smart is being pitched as a smartphone that is easy for everyone to use with HTC’s Sense user interface deployed to make the phone fully customisable.

HTC have also announced a number of new Android and Windows Mobile handsets, some of which should arrive in Ireland by April too.

The Taiwanese company, which has had success here with its HTC Hero smartphone, said that the HD mini and Legend phones will get an April launch in Europe. The HTC Desire, which was also announced at the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona, is slated for a Q2 release in Europe. No carrier deals have been announced for these handsets, however.

In the past HTC would be known to Irish customers for the re-branded phones it made for networks like o2; the most popular of which would be the XDA series. In the last few months the company has pushed its own brand, however, starting with the Hero and Tattoo and continuing this year with its cutting-edge HD2.

The Hero is currently only available on Meteor but is expected to become available on other networks soon.

Will the Legend be available in Ireland with any carrier, I do know Vodafone UK will have it exclusively but this doesnt neccessarily mean it will be launched in Ireland?

Hey Donal – this comment somehow ended up in spam so sorry about that!

From what I can see Meteor will have exclusivity for the first few months. It’s likely to be made available on other networks after that.
