Eircom and Vodafone have both launched their own 24mbps home broadband packages today. The high-speed services will be available to new and existing customers of both companies and according to Eircom should be available to about 1/3 of households.
Vodafone’s 24meg service includes a 100GB monthly download limit and will cost €62 per month – although this price includes line rental.
Eircom’s service comes with a 75GB monthly download limit and costs €48 excluding line rental.
Both services have a 48:1 contention ratio, upload speeds of 768kbps and are available at a discount when included in various bundles.
The speed upgrades being offered by both companies from today brings them into line with competitors like Magnet, which already offers 24meg connections.
All of these packages still fall short of the fastest package offered by cable company NTL/Chorus, however, which has a top speed of 30megs.
