The BBC is in talks with developers about creating games based on its most popular programmes, according to industry journal MCV.
According to the site, the BBC is looking to turn shows like Top Gear and Doctor Who into games for the likes of the iPhone and Wii. The commercial arm of the company – BBC Worldwide – is speaking to developers and publishers about the move.
The BBC’s previous attempts in the games industry ended in 2005 and the company has turned down a number of licencing opportunities since then.
According to the MCV report the corporation are looking for more than “opportunistic licensing” and want to work closely with developers to build on existing franchises.
