Having threatened legal action against Fusio for their Dublinbikes iPhone app, advertising firm JC Decaux is expected to release its own alternative in the near future.
Irish developers Fusio were forced to pull their free tool from the iTunes App Store after they were sent a cease and desist letter from the advertisers funding the bike rental scheme.
The application let users find their nearest rental station via the phone’s GPS function and detailed how many bikes and spaces were available at it in real time using information from the scheme’s official website.
What functionality the JC Decaux app will have is unknown at present but it is unlikely to be much different to Fusio’s attempts. What is equally unlikely is that the application will be made available to users for free when it finally does come to market.
